A dog has reportedly been rescued after its owner bound its muzzle with a plastic band and tried to sell it to market vendors for its meat.

The dog was found on the street of Xi'an in north-western China last week, according to video news outlet Pear.
An animal lover, named Liu Aiwei, said the dog's former owner, a farmer, had decided to sell the pet to meat vendors because he had to move houses.
She said the man had tied up the dog's muzzle to prevent it from biting people on the way to the trading venue.
'The dog escaped halfway,' Ms Liu claimed.
She added that many animal lovers in Xi'an, including her, went out to look for the dog after hearing that a dog with its muzzle bound had gone missing.

'I caught it and helped it remove the cord.'

The tragic story reflects the flourishing dog meat trade in some parts of China.
China's central government in May signalled that it could ban canine meat from the dinner table after removing dogs from its official list of livestock.
However, the government is yet to issue an order to forbid the eating of dogs in the country.
The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs called for 'some traditional customs about dogs' to change in the country and stressed that dogs were 'companion, rescue and service animals'.
Two Chinese cities, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, have banned the eating of dogs in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite those official moves and concerns over the spread of COVID-19, the Yulin dog meat festival, one of the most controversial food festivals in the world, opened on the summer solstice 'as usual' in the southern province of Guangxi, according to animal lovers.
